Media Upload & Management

Learn how to upload and manage new media files.

  • Lumiverse™ can read almost any video or image format.
  • For video upload, use regular video formats such as .mp4, .avi, .mov, .mpeg; The recommended video format is: FullHD; 25FPS; MP4; H.264
  • For pictures, use .jpeg or .png files
  • Single file size max 5GB (maximum file size supported by Lumiverse™). If your video is larger than 5GB, you may resolve the problem by decreasing the resolution and bitrate in render settings, or by cutting the video into smaller time segments and connecting them seamlessly using the Playlist in Lumiverse™
  • Video transparency: The Lumiverse™ native HAP video codec in a .mov container supports video transparency. (an alpha channel rendered directly into the video). HAP codec produces large files; therefore, it is not recommended for regular file transfers, unless video transparency (alpha) is required
  • Use short, descriptive, and unique file names. Avoid special characters, spaces, or excessively long names to prevent upload issues and improve organization.

Lumiverse™ uses file names to identify media assets. If you upload a new file with the same name as an existing file:

  • The new file will automatically replace the previous one.
  • The old version is permanently deleted.
  • All projects, playlists, and media objects that reference the original file will use the updated version—no need to manually re-assign or edit projects.
  • Why is this useful? This overwrite-by-name feature is a fast and efficient way to update content across multiple projects without rebuilding them.
  • For changes to take effect, restart the Project: navigate to Main Menu > Projects (third row) > click "Stop" > click your Project
  • Make sure your projectors are online (thus ready for media upload)
  • Consider duplicating the Project for new edits. With this strategy, you can always easily return to the previous project version.
  • If you are happy to edit the currently active Project, open the Editor.
  • In the Editor, click the '+' button on the bottom right of the screen.
  • If you end up in the last visited folder, click the arrow-up '↑' in the top-left corner to leave the folder
  • This is your projector's media and objects library. Navigate to the "My" folder to see your uploaded files. Click "Upload New" at the bottom of the screen to start uploading a new file.
  • Lumiverse™ will redirect back to the Editor, where you can observe the three phases of the file upload process in a progress bar at the top of the screen.
  • 1/3 uploading the file is uploading it from your computer to the Lumiverse™ server.
  • 2/3 downloading the file is downloading from the Lumiverse™ server into your LM3X projector's local storage.
  • 3/3 converting - file is converting into the playable format.
  • For the duration of these processes, the file miniature in the "My" folder will appear semi-transparent, indicating that the upload/download/convert has not yet been completed.
  • If the download fails, check Settings > Device Storage, then click the "Download Sources" button.
  • When the file upload completes, you can find it in the "My" folder.
  • You can command a projector to distribute the same file to all other projectors in the same G- Group.
  • You can do that by adding a string of symbols to the file name.
  • Example: if you want to upload the video file house1.mp4 to all projectors in the same Group, you need to add symbols --u1 (minus, minus, letter u, number 1) to its name.
  • Rename the file for house1--u1.mp4
  • Upload the file; it will download to all devices assigned to the same G- Group.
  • Note: If you want to update/rewrite this file with a newer version (same file name), it has to be uploaded via the same projector.
  • The file stored in the projector's storage takes more space than the originally uploaded file. This is because the uploaded file has been converted to the internal player codec, which is HAP. HAP is optimized for playback and takes up more space than the originally uploaded, compressed videos.
  • If managing a group of projectors, use the G- Group Controller.
  • Navigate to Projects.
  • Find the project you want to use, click 'three-dots' (⋯).
  • In the centre, there is a 'double-square' button; click it to clone (duplicate) the Project. (Keep the previous version of the Project as a backup.)
  • Click the selected projects' square-with-round-corners' icon to activate it. The white 'check-mark' symbol above the icon confirms that the project has been activated.
  • Navigate to the individual projector's controller.
  • Make sure the right project name shows in the controller of the individual projector (main menu, third row).
  • Navigate to the Editor.
  • Select the Media Frame.
  • Click the 'edit-pencil' button in the bottom-right of the screen.
  • Find the "Change Source" button. If you can't see the "Change Source" button, the Media Frame object is a Playlist type. Click "Items", select the item you want to replace, click 'three-dots' (⋯), click 'edit-pencil'.
  • Click the "Change Source" button.
  • Navigate to the "My" folder and select the new media file.
  • Repeat for all projectors in the same Group.
