Manual Playback / Live Control

Learn how to live control a show during a live event.

  • Direct sunlight must not enter the projector's lens; it will damage the chip.
  • LM3X projectors are equipped with a mechanical shutter, called the Sun Shield, that protects the lens against direct sunlight.
  • When you switch the "Projection" to the "On" state (manually or on schedule), the projector opens the Sun Shield and starts projecting.
  • A projector with an open Sun Shield is critically vulnerable to direct sunlight; therefore, always make sure the projector is not aiming towards the sun when projecting.
  • Always switch the "Projection" to the "Off" state when you're done. (Main Menu > Power Button > Projection: Off)

There are three different frame synchronization (Multi-Projection) modes in Lumiverse™: "Single Projector", "Ethernet Group", and "Wireless Group". The user must select the correct frame synchronization mode when using the system for the first time. The system stores the last selected mode for next use.

  • "Single Projector" - Use this mode if you use an individual projector.
  • "Ethernet Group" - Use this mode to synchronize a group of projectors connected via a LAN cable. Check eligibility: Navigate to Settings > Network > Ethernet Group Settings. It should say "Configuration OK". If the configuration is not working, try configuring one projector on the network as "Main" (Master) and all other projectors as "Secondary" (Slave). If that doesn't help, a LAN network is not present, the LAN network is damaged, or the router is not a supported type.
  • "Wireless Group" - Use this mode to wirelessly synchronize a group of projectors. This method uses a GPS wireless signal to synchronize video frames. Make sure all projectors in the group receive GPS data correctly: Navigate to each device's Settings > Advanced > Sensors, and check whether the interface displays "GPS available: yes" and shows GPS data in white font color. If the Sensors interface displays "GPS available: yes" and shows data in white font, your projector is currently receiving wireless synchronization data. If the Sensors interface displays "GPS available: no" and shows GPS data in dimmed blue font, the projector has previously received wireless synchronization data but is not receiving it at the moment. Common causes of a missing GPS signal are: an older projector model, an obstructed sky view, indoor testing, or rare SIM card interference blocking the internal GPS antenna. Contact support@LM3X.com with your projector serial numbers and a description of the installation location. Our technicians will remotely connect to your device, diagnose the issue, and apply a fix or recommend solutions.

  • If working with a group of projectors, navigate to the G- Group Controller
  • Click the Power Button (main menu, top-right)
  • Select the right "Multi-Projection" mode (third row)
  • Switch "Projection" to "Lumiverse on" (second row)
  • Remember to switch "Projection" off at the end of the session
  • If working with a group of projectors, navigate to the G- Group Controller
  • Click the Projects Icon (shows the name of the currently active projector or shows "Stop" next to it, third row in the main menu)
  • You can play a Project by clicking it. You can stop the playback by clicking on the "Stop" button.
  • Note: Even in "Stop", the projector's light source continues to wear, and the Sun Shield remains open. The "Stop" button doesn't end the projection. It just makes the projector project black. To actually switch the projection off, use Main Menu > Power Button > switch "Projection" off
  • Note: If you experience a problem with the Project, switching to "Stop" and back to the Project forces the internal computer to reload data, which is likely to fix the problem.
  • If you experience a poor show start sync, if one projector starts slightly earlier than the other, the cause is most likely that the Preload setting is absent or too short.
  • Preloader delays the Project playback start to load all data correctly before the content plays.
  • Preloader creates a short delay that occurs after you click the Project to play.
  • If you experience poor show start synchronization, do the following:
  1. Activate Preload in the affected Project settings
    • Each Project can independently turn preloading on or off.
    • For projector groups: Set this in the G- Group Controller to ensure all projectors use the same setting; mismatches cause desynchronization.
    • Navigate to Main Menu > Projects > Select Project: Three Dots (⋯) > Project Settings
    • Toggle the Preload checkbox on (recommended for most projects)
  1. Set the Preloader Time (Scene Delay Time)
    • All projectors in the group must have the same Preloader Time setting, otherwise there will be a sync mismatch.
    • Navigate to each projector's Settings > Advanced > Preloader Time > Scene Delay Time
    • Default Preload: 3 seconds (sufficient for simple projects)
    • If the default 3-second preload duration doesn't achieve a smooth show start, increase to 10 seconds (or more). Longer Preload duration helps with complex Projects that use many high-resolution media frames or layers, or with slow internet connections.
  • When editing a project, a white outline automatically appears to highlight the media frame(s). This makes calibration and understanding easier, but could be disruptive during a show.
  • You can permanently hide frame outlines in Settings > Editor Settings > "Outlines Disabled" checkbox
  • You can control the Playlist object in real time. You can either use the Play Previous and Play Next buttons to browse the Playlist, or you can play a Playlist Item from the list of all Items. This is programmed above a Playlist object by adding the Playlist Control filter.
  • Step-by-step manual in the previous chapter: 14 Playlist programming: Playlist Control - live interactive control of your playlist like a carousel
  • If you need to skip a movie to a given timestamp (fast-forward/seek), you can use the Playlist Start Offset function for that.
  • "Start Offset" controls how much of the video duration is cut at the beginning. For example, if you set Start Offset to 60 seconds, the first minute of the video will not play; playback will skip to the 60-second timestamp and play from there.
  • Navigate to the Editor
  • Select the Media Frame that contains the movie and click the 'edit-pencil' button at the bottom-right of the screen
  • Click the "Convert to Playlist" button at the very bottom of the 'media-frame' tab (skip if the object already is a Playlist)
  • Click the "Items" bar
  • Find the video Item that you want to edit, click the 'three-dots' button
  • Click the 'edit-pencil' button
  • Here, you can type in "Start Offset" time (how many seconds at the beginning of the movie should be skipped)
  • Confirm with "Ok" button
  • Click the '←' at the top-left corner once
  • Confirm changes with the "Apply" button at the bottom.
  • Navigate to Projects (main menu, third row)
  • Click "Stop"
  • Click your Project to play it, the movie will skip to the Start Offset timestamp.

Projectors are set to reboot every day in the early morning to clear memory and shut down a potentially forgotten Projection: On

  • Auto-Reboot is set in Settings > Advanced > Automatic Reboot
  • If you plan a show, make sure the Auto Reboot time doesn't interfere with your plans
  • You can temporarily disable Auto Reboot, but make sure to enable it after your show. It protects your system long-term.
